Kahramanmaraş 092

At the foot of the Kale hill sits a building with Taş (or "stone") in its name. I was looking for the Taş Medrese and Han, and this building may have been it - or not. It was a grave monument for Allahudevle oğlu Merhu Mehmet Bey. But there were other graves. They all seem to have died in 1338. A guest indicated they probably died as martyrs in some war about 1913 (see message below). I think he is right.

More recently another viewer wrote "They are the martyred militia fighting against the French in one of the firs skirmishes of the Great War for Independence, 1920." But that might conflict with the date of 1913. I do not know what to choose.

Adjacent was a small mosque or mescit, again named Taş, but the whole complex seemed a bit small to have housed a medrese or Koran School, so I just may have missed that. I did ask around, but was sent back to this building, then I gave up.

Thanks to my guest for providing a logical explanation which I accept, I edited my text accordingly. Thanks for the compliment also.

i think they died in some war. 1338 would roughly convert to 1913 a.d. and the word "sehit" means they died in service. *keep up your great work, mr Osseman. i eagerly wait for new pictures
