On the picture: Inside one of the rooms of the so-called ‘Roman Bath’.
Although this large building (70 x 55 m), located at the northwest corner of the city, is labeled as a Roman Bath, there is still some uncertainty whether the building was in fact a bath or not. Until now (the building not being excavated completely) there are no clear traces of a water supply and heating system. Also, the entrances are on the west and north-west sides, which would be very unusual for a bath.
In this situation the complex rather looks like the lower part of a huge building that bore a massive structure above on its strong arches; so, the ‘Bath’ is possibly the foundations for a building on a slope (as it was done at Pergamon’s acropolis for the Temple of Trajan).
