Harem

view map

I did not visit this room (restorations were going on in 2017, when I visited again), but this is an older picture of the Yemiş Odası or Fruit Room, because of the panels of fruit with which the walls are decorated. It belongs to the high Tulip period and shows the beginning of Rococo influence. It's from 1705-6 and was built under Ahmet III.

The mirror like object on the ground is named "sini" in Turkish. It functions as a table for dining. Beginning from Mehmet the Conqueror Sultans had the custom to have meal alone or only with the people they respect much. Dining with Sultan was a sign of rank and respect.
