Yazilikaya sword god and Sarruma

The “sword god” consists of a large sword blade with a human torso as a handle. Instead of arms lion heads protrude at the shoulders. It is thought this is the god of the underworld, Nergal. This would tie in with a ritual text that has been found, referring to “the bronze swords of Nergal” and the “12 gods of the road junction”. Indeed on the opposite side a group of gods is represented.

Sarruma, son of weather god Tesub and goddess Hepat, protects the king, who is much smaller. In the back an eagle spreads his wings.
