Amasya II Beyazit Mosque from Kale Hill

view map

The Beyazit II mosque is from 1486. From this view one can clearly see that, as with many mosques, it is the centre of a series of other buildings, such as a soup kitchen, a koran school, a hospital. One of the largest I know is in Istanbul at the Fatih Mosque and the Süleyman complex is pretty big too. Nice about this one is its size: just right. The picture was taken from a rock on the other side of the river, on top it the Kale or fortress, in the rock's side are dug the grave monuments of Pontic kings.

The building on the right used to be the medrese. Now it is used as a library and it contins very old handwritings. There is one of the first Kuran (Quran) handwriting copies in this library (that belongs to Hazret-i Osman, the third Khalipha).
