Haghia Sophia Trabzon

The Haghia Sophia (Aya Sofya) is a church dating back to 1228-1263. It houses some very fine frescoes. It is a major sight of the city.

This is some stone work at an entrance. It's a new edit of a slide I scanned again and edited in 2018.

A capital in the main portal of Hagia Sophia shows eagles looking westwards and eastwards. The double-headed eagle was the symbol of the Byzantine Empire which spread from the west to the east.
