Patara

On the road to Fethiye (has a gallery of its own) you will come by Patara. I went there not for the beach (which is great) but for the antique city.

I will not explain most of the pictures, since I cannot reconstruct what they portray. Though after some correcting comments I think this is the bath.

Same problem as with the other commentator: "there", "further away". Did you stand next to me when I took the picture? And yes, I have seen my share of basilica's, first in Rome, then elsewhere.

But then again I found a link to the same building, named as "bath" http://www.stnicholascenter.org/Brix?pageID=28), so I give in. Bath it will be.

All the descrýptýons of Patara locate the bath there and the basýlýca further away. Ive not seen any basýlýca wýth flat top wýndows ýn the apse. It ýs very easy to confuse a ruýned bath and a church (but not a basýlýcaþ whých tends to have a hall plan wýth sýde aýsles).

A comment like this is not very helpful. Do you mean "I know for a fact" or "my guess is as good as yours". I went to Patara also, since there I took this picture. Later I wrote on the slide "Basilica". Now you come, and "guess". For a bath house I would say it has a bit too many windows, the idea was to keep the heat in, wasn't it. Yes, I know about tepidariums and all that. I have probably seen a couple of thousand churches, and to me it looks like a possible basilica. So, like I often ask people: what is your source? I couldn't find it in the five books and three websites I checked. So now it's up to you.

I have been to Patara and I guess this was not a basilica but a bath.
