Selcuk Ataturk monument

view map

The one thing I did take a picture of in Selçuk town is the Atatürk monument. It’s amazing, being a head of Atatürk lying on its back, that contains a set of portraits of farmers, soldiers and such, along the sides and on the ground of openings within the monument.

A viewer informed me it was made by the sculptor Mehmet Aksoy in '99 or '00.

hi mr. osseman
i wrote a comment to one of your photos about amasya ataturk monument;remember me?:)
if i'm not wrong;when it's 12p.m. with local time of selcuk, this monument has a great shadow of ataturk's silhouetto (reflect this side-sorry for bad english:)
and i think it's the most unordinary point of this monument...
it was made by sculpture mehmet aksoy in '99 or '00...
also the monument's other side contains the passages from "kuvayý milliye destaný" which's written by turkey's well-known poet nazým hikmet...

This is diffeent from other monuments. It is about the selcuk massacre commired by Greek Army while retreating. You should look to the monument more carefully
