I walked all the way to what I expected to be some memorial, as the Turkish name implies an obelisk. I found it on Google Maps, and only later found the text (translated) “It is wrong to present this ordinary structure as DİKLİTAŞ. This is the chimney structure of the silk-textile factory, which was run by the minorities living in Karaağaç until the first quarter of the 20th century, until the Republican period. In fact, one of the first owners of the building located opposite the factory and today called Dr. Bahattin ÖĞÜTMEN Mansion (Tulipa) was an Italian merchant and also one of the owners of this factory. It changed hands with the Bulgarian and Greek occupations and was then abandoned to its fate. Today we only see the chimney structure. It's funny and ironic that this relic, which is not very valuable, is considered as an Obelisk and valued.”
