The mosque was built as a monastery by the Romans at the beginning of the 2nd century. It reflects Roman, Byzantine and Turkish cultures. A church was added to the castle by the Byzantines in the 5th century. Kasım Bey, the son of Dulkadiroĝlu Alaüddevle Bozkurt turned it into a mosque and gave it a roof with lead. It was used as Müslim theological school and a mosque till 1924.
