Mudurnu Yildirim Beyazit Mosque june 2019 2866.jpg

In 2019 I returned, and found that many more houses had been restored. It will take some time for a proper patina to mellow their bright new looks, but then the town will present a fine view. I this time took a route where I walked along a hill leading to the clock tower and then down into the part of town I visited earlier. Several buildings there were being restored, amongst them the bath and a mosque. I present the new pictures in the order they were taken. The sky was very clouded and some rain fell, so no sunny pictures. Still, I enjoyed myself greatly.

The 'Yıldırım Camii' was built in 1382 [a notice above the entrance gives 1374, 1382 is given at the bath as the date it was built D.O.], together with a hamam and a madrasa, ordered by (the future sultan) Yıldırım Beyazıt, who was governor of the region at that time. 1382 was a moment of much building activity, for it is also the date the 'Yıldırım Camii' of Bolu was constructed.
This 'Yıldırım Camii' is still Mudurnu’s largest historic monument. It has been restored several times: in 1776, 1839, 1900, 1956 for certain (these dates are documented).
