From the Yenişehir Gate I walked south. There is little to see, at the southernmost end the wall curves to the east, almost immediately there is what seems to be not a gate but just a big hole. Passing through it I found myself, years ago, in an area where poor people lived, they turned out to be gypsies. I then took pictures of them, they were very friendly. Not friendly were some people who, after I published them, complained I was suggesting their proud Iznik was a gypsy town. In their minds an awful thing. I myself despise such people, so I’ll not get into that discussion again (traces can be found on my main Iznik page). In 2018 I saw there still are poor people, they still were friendly, but I did not take pictures.
Outside the wall. I walked through a big hole, later to return.
