On Taksim Square, just before Istiklal Caddesi starts, and so before the French Embassy, there is a curious elongated building. In 2015 it turned out to hold an, impressive, exhibition of pictures concerning "Tolerance". Lots of pictures had praying people, and as such had little to do with tolerance as I see it, some were just fine views of - mainly - Istanbul, but some indeed conveyed a message of tolerance. And almost without exception they were very well composed and fine pieces of photography.
To me the building itself was of interest: it turned out to be a large scale water storage. On one picture you see the consecutive spaces that once held lots of water. At one end stood a six-sided building with a fountain, I take it that was where part of the water was dispensed.
