Roman inscription, standing close to the Roman ‘Gate of Cleopatra’.
The text is an edict of emperor Severus Alexander (222-235), awarding the provincial authorities of Cilicia far-reaching rights of free trade and granting the city of Tarsus the privileged status of ‘Roman city’ (which was exceptional outside Italy).
