Gobekli Tepe september 2014 3114.jpg

A first glimpse from down the hill, looking up to where the tell is situated.

From a notice at the site: […] Among the interesting findings that are revealed in Göbeklitepe there are varanus griseus griseus [Desert monitor], reptile embossments, wild boars, common crane, white stork, fox, gazelle, wild donkey, snake, scorpion, wild sheep, lion, spider and human embossments that do not have any head, male sculptures, the male organ of which are exaggerated. Finding that are found consist of important facts that represent the belief of human who adapted the sedentary life 12.000 years ago. [I still do not understand why Turkish notices always manage to sneak some gobbledygook in, like the “finding that are found” in this overall not too bad text. I mean, you collaborate with Germans who in general know their languages, and then a thing like this crops up. Do they use Google Translate? They should know better than that].
Buildings 12.000 old that are in Göbeklitepe are accepted as the beginning of the history of architecture. [The rest of the text is rubbish also:] […] “first sanctuary belonging to the polytheistic period that was before the monotheistic religion was known as the sanctuary in malta island which dates back to 5.000 B.C. By the detection of Göbeklitepe settlements, this knowledge lost its validity and it is verified by scientific data that first sanctuary of human kind was the “Göbeklitepe sanctuary” that dates back to 12.000 years ago. according to archaeological view that is accepted all over the world, most important factors for people to get in to settled life from hunter and collector life style are the fear of hunger and protection instinct. Göbeklitepe broke this [?] taboo. In that is proves thst (sic) there may be the effect of religious beliefs on the transition to the settled life.
