A detail of the interior.
On the picture: the upper part of the 16th century marble minber (pulpit), stained-glass windows and some murals (a recent restoration in Classical Ottoman style), and the broad calligraphic border of Iznik tiles at the top of the picture (with its script in white, on a blue base). The text consists of a ‘Besmele/Bismillah’ (the phrase recited before each ‘sura’/chapter of the Kuran) and two suras (the 94th and the 122th). It is the work of Hattat (= calligrapher) Çerkez Hasan. Classical Ottoman, about 1573.
