This is the former Sea Gate, other gates that remained from Roman times were destroyed in 1835 by Ibrahim Pasha. As Cleopatra once visited the city (and met Marc Anthony in it) it's a fine story to tell the tourists that she was welcomed at this gate, hence the name "Cleopatra's Gate".
