Dionysus. Found in 1992 in front of the stage of the Theatre. H. 2,25 m. Roman, second and third century AD. Considered one of the most important statues in the museum, beside the Alexander the Great one. Alexander believed he descended from Herakles, the second most important god in his life was Dionysos. They joined him at the stage building in Perge. In the theatre itself a frieze depicted scenes from the life of Dionysus, I’d love to see them, but the theatre is closed for renovation. This particular statue is fine, it shows the god together with several elements and animals. On my pictures only a lioness is shown, with an unidentified person next to it.
