Side of an embossed block, Perge, 2nd century AD
I have been informed this is a baitylos, from the Arameic 'beth-el' or 'house of (the) god', a holy stone that in the Near East was considered to be a place where god dwelled. In this case it is Artemis Pergaia (the Artemis of Perge). Just above the centre a new moon is visible with above the head of the goddess, topped by a pulos (high headdress); on the three levels below women perform rituals. The stone stems from the theatre in Perge.
