Perge march 2012 3917.jpg

A path (and sometimes not even that) led me along a series of unidentified (by me) constructions, some probably parts of city walls or defensive towers, others just large. All these are in the south part of town, where no visitors seem to come.

I have been informed that in the distancde the tower belonging to the Hellenistic city wall can be seen. When Perge regained growth in the 2nd half of the first century AD the southern part of the wasll was demolished, keeping the Hellenistic Tower in place - and building the southern baths and the agora (macellum) on the space, extending the town further south. In the 4th century these extensions were walled in, of those walls some remains are visible to the right.
