There is a "metro" under construction, it has led to the destruction of hundreds of houses in poor neighbourhoods, that still flank the area.
Several Kurdish people living there. I cannot help it, they will almost always make gestures that some will interpret as linked to terrotist acts. I once again brace myself for the protests this will generate. I am so used to both the gestures and the protests that no, I will not not take those pictures. They are part of Turkish life (that some prefer to ignore).

Shortly after this picture was taken a curious thing happened. I feel never insecure in poor areas, but on this occasion a man started pulling at my sleeve, telling me I was unsafe. He had organized a car that was waiting for me, and he told me I should get in. I tried to explain there was no problem, but he just would not accept this. As a result my attention was drawn away from the kids surrounding me, who now began to pull at me also (touching my camera and lens, which I don't like for certain). It became so messy I finally got into the car, just to get away from the man who in my mind caused all the trouble, but who probably stayed back, proudly thinking how he saved a tourist.
