Some 16th-17th century Turkish rugs are called ‘Holbein’, after the renaissance artist Hans Holbein the Younger (1497-1543) who included them in his paintings. These carpets belong to two geographical groups: the ‘Uşak’ (110 km west of Afyon) and the ‘Bergama’ (80 km north of Izmir).
