The mosque was created by closing the two entrances of the Mardin Gate. It is known as Hz. Ömer Mosque, named after Ömer Şeddad because the name Mescid-i Şeddad was found in its inscription. It was built in the İnaloğulları period in 1150-1151. Entrances of the Mardin Gate were turned into a mosque. It reflects an irregular architecture due to its location.
