In June 2012 I went to Gordion, visiting it from nearby Polatlı, which I also show on some pictures. I now show the pictures of the museum at the Gordion site, with pictures from the tumulus across the road, which contains the grave chamber, the content of which is on display in the Ankara museum of Anatolian Civilizations. I then moved on to the former capital of the Phrygian people, themselves mainly dwelling in houses cut from the rock, but their capital has some proper buildings, the function of which is hard to fathom unless you are an archaeologist.

The Wikipedia has: "Gordium (Greek: Γόρδιον, Górdion; Turkish: Gordiyon) was the capital city of ancient Phrygia. It was located at the site of modern Yassıhüyük, about 70–80 km southwest of Ankara (capital of Turkey), in the immediate vicinity of Polatlı district. The site was excavated by Gustav and Alfred Körte in 1900 and then by the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, under the direction of Rodney S. Young, between 1950 and 1973. Excavations have continued at the site under the auspices of the University of Pennsylvania Museum with an international team.

Gordium lies where the ancient road between Lydia and Assyria/Babylonia crossed the Sangarius river."

On 18 September 2023 it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
