Bandırma is a harbour town at the south side of the Marmara Sea, some two hours by bus to the east of Çanakkale. Since a couple of years there is a fast connection by boat to Yeni Kapı in Istanbul (two hours). I myself did not travel that way, but stayed a night in order to visit the nearby remains of an ancient city, Kyzikos. As for that I failed to a great extent: I found the Zeus temple (in ruins), but failed to find the theatre, amfitheatre and city walls. However, as a short visit to “the countryside” it was time well spent. And Bandirma turned out to have some fine architecture, as well as some very steep streets (yokuş), my jolly.
