OK, it's agree with my observations in different islands of the Cape Verdes. The melanistic form is more common on Madeira and La Palma islands.

I did not seen any melanistic Blackcap, I am sorry.. despite I have looked for it a lot :-)

Hi again. OK, perfect. By the way, did you see any "Veiled" or melanistic Blackcap there? As you know, there are records of melanistic birds from the Azores, Madeira and the Canaries, but not -as far as I know- from the Cape Verdes.

Hi Rubén, thanks for your comment. I perfectly know the story how the name "gularis" was given by Boyd Alexander on 1898. However, until this ssp won't be officially "deleted", I will keep it on my pictures.

Very good and nice photos. Congratulations! Only one comment: the subspecies gularis of Blackcap seems to ve invalid, as its description was based on birds showing orange-yellow throat due to pollen of Aloe plants. In fact, your image of the species shows it. I have also seen some birds with orange throat on Fogo Island in 2005.

sorry for the late reply.. No, there was only one Black Heron and one Intermediate Egret at Barragem de Poilao, Santiago. On Boavista I had a male Blue-winged Teal and a possible American Golden Plover...

Very nice shots Daniele, I was in Cape Verde in February at Boa Vista only. Were there still 2 Black Herons at this site?
