The bimah in Temple Mickve Israel (founded 1790) - in Savannah

Temple Mickve Israel is the third oldest Jewish congregation in the U.S. and the only Gothic-style synagogue in the U.S. The current synagogue seen in this photo was built in 1878 and looks more like a church than a synagogue - perhaps necessary considering when and where it was built. Its museum houses among other historical items letters from Presidents Washington, Jefferson and Madison, and the synagogue's original 15th century Torah.
