Linda and Ruth at Ganko Takasegawa Nijoen (restaurant) in Kyoto

A traditional Japanese dinner was served by kimono-clad waitresses at this restaurant. This is one of several traditional Japanese restaurants where we ate on this trip. Each meal typically consisted of many courses of small portions beautifully presented. Sometimes the food items were served in small wooden boxes. Food items often served were various Japanese salads (fruits and/or vegetables), sashimi (meat and fish), sushi, cooked meat with vegetables sometimes prepared by us in a small cooker at our table, rice, tempura, miso soup, tofu, green tea and of course sake.
A traditional, strolling Japanese garden is behind the restaurant.
The building housing the restaurant had been a vacation mansion for a powerful and wealthy family for nearly 400 years before it was converted into a restaurant.
