The patio seating at the rear of the restaurants on the eastern side (left side in the photo) of Pontocho Alley overlooks the Kamo River.
The Alley is lined with traditional shops, restaurants, bars and Geisha tea houses. The Alley comes alive at night. Nightlife has been here since the early 700's c.e.
