Zippori: Depiction of how the synagogue in the previous photo, built in the 5th century c.e., looked in those days.

Zippori is now a small agricultural community in the hills of Lower Galilee. City dates from the 2nd century b.c.e. Became a prosperous Roman city in the 1st and 2nd centuries c.e. where Jews and gentiles coexisted in relative peace. Home of the Sanhedrin (Jewish high court) and home of Yehuda Ha-Nassi and other rabbis who codified the Mishna in the 2nd century c.e. Zippori was the Jewish administrative and intellectual capital of Galilee during Roman times. Zippori also supposedly was the birthplace of Mary. Beautiful ruins in the park: Crusader church and fortress, small Roman amphitheater, Roman mosaics and a synagogue (from the 5th century c.e.) with mosaic floor with a zodiac design.
