This photo shows the area just east of the Western (Wailing) Wall in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City.
Outside the walled area to the right is an Archaeological Park where there are current excavations.
The tall tower inside the walled area is part of the Islamic Museum.
The dome behind the tall tower is part of the El-Aqsa Mosque which was originally built in the 8th century. It is the main place for Islamic worship in Jerusalem.
In the background is the Mount of Olives - has a Jewish cemetery more than 2000 years old – some buried here (white gravestones seen in the photo), perhaps waiting for the Messiah and/or resurrection. The cemetery has the tomb of Zechariah and other prophets. Some believe the route to heaven is the shortest here. Also, Christ supposedly taught on the Mount of Olives and supposedly rose to heaven here.
