Jerusalem: The Old City – Entrance to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher – the most sacred Christian place in Jerusalem.

Inside the entrance of the church is the Stone of Unction where supposedly Jesus’ body was cleansed and prepared for burial. What a moving scene it was to see so many people lying on the ground and touching/rubbing the stone. Many Christians believe that this church marks the place where Jesus was crucified by the Romans, buried and then rose from the dead three days later. The Church is shared by six Catholic denominations. The first church built on the site was in the 4rd century c.e. The fourth church built on this site was by the Crusaders in the 12th century.
