The Golan Heights is in the northeast part of Israel. It was occupied by Israel after the Six Day War with Egypt, Jordan and Syria in June, 1967. Before that war, the Golan Heights was Syrian. In the Yom Kippur War of 1973, Syria briefly invaded the Golan Heights before being pushed back to the current borders. More recently, the Golan Heights has come under missile fire from Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon.
