Assisi: Left side - Church of Santa Maria Maggiore - was the cathedral of Assisi until the 1020's - rebuilt in early 1200's.
Judy - Assisi in the background. Cranes in town to repair damage from 1997 earthquake - 4 died at Basilica of St. Francis
Assisi: Street connects to the Porta Nuova entrance of the old town. Portal to parking area in the background.
Piazza Santa Chiara - The Basilica di Santa Chiara (St. Clare) is located on this piazza.
Basilica of St. Clare: (1260) - Gothic features, e.g., flying buttresses, on the left. She was a follower of St. Francis.
A street in Assisi (Assisi has lots of structures from the 12th to 14th centuries.)
Piazza del Commune: Temple of Minerva's 6 Corinthian column facade (1st c. b.c.e.) - a church in 1500's. Left: 13th c. tower.

Basilica of St. Francis: Gothic church built on top of another one (1200's). St. Francis: patron Saint of Italy - very good guy!
