After years of thinking I should go there but never taking the time, I finally went to the Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) in Quechee, Vermont (Exit 1 of I-89, Route 4 west about 3 miles, just a few hundred yards past the Gorge bridge) ... an easy 110 mile drive south of St. Albans. They're the home of Vermont's raptor center -- owls, hawks, falcons, ravens, vultures, and eagles -- and more! ... Gorgeous birds of prey, nice setting, pleasant staff ... Worth a visit! We even got treated to an impromptu and nearly private hawk flight show which was an unexpected treat. Special thanks to Senator Jim Jeffords and his wife who donated the funds to make the new campus in Queeche possible - great legacy gift. Plus, there is quality local pizza nearby, so it's a fantastic day trip or interstate drive distraction.
