St. Mike's and SNHU enjoyed a beautiful afternoon for ball and had two hard-fought games, with SNHU coming away with both wins, 1-0 and 9-4. Steph started game 1 and pitched masterfully, with only a 2nd-batter HR separating her from a shutout. KellyE doubled in the bottom of the 7th, but got stranded at 3rd. Steph started game 2 as well and SNHU came out blazing and powered into the lead. KellyE relieved and Steph came back on later as SNHU began to pull away. SMC refused to roll over -- love that -- with Katelyn blasting a (that was inches from a HR against the centerfield fence) to awaken SMC's offense. KellyL had a 2-rbi single after LindsayB had doubled and KateC singled; MegC then followed Kate's lead with a slightly higher blast that went for a 2-run HR.Kate & Heather combined to nail two runners at the plate -- the first on a deflected ball out in short center and the second on a long relay from deep left. I've lost track of how many runners they've nailed for SMC, but I've never tired of seeing 7 & 3 combine! Congrats go out to that duo, as Heather earned the 2010 Softball Award at the Block M Awards Dinner and Katelyn earned the Keleher Award as SMC's top female scholar athlete for 2010. Nice tips-of-the-cap to the two Comets-turned-Knights as they begin to wrap up their college careers.
