Between the 2011 games vs Adelphi, the SMC softball family paused to honor Raina Jensen '06, who pitched for St. Mikes from 2003-2006 and graduated with a degree in political science and journalism -- before being killed by a drunk driver in November of 2010. Raina's family attended the doubleheader -- along with a large collection of alumni who turned out in tribute. Softball alums joined the current Purple Knights on the diamond for a moment of silence. Coach Newton spoke of Raina and then alum Katie Healey Farrow read a message from Raina's family. Our family's prayers go out to the Jensen family. Coach had asked me to come down and take photos of the ceremony for those who couldn't attend and it was the least I could do.At the Pace doubleheader the next day, the alumni continued to support the current Purple Knights while remembering their teammate through photos -- I added three photos from Sunday to the end of this gallery.
Here is a link to a video of the ceremony out on the SMC website.
Fittingly, the annual Fall Ball SMC Softball vs SMC Softball Alumni game is now named after Raina -- here are photos from the 1st Annual Raina Jensen Memorial SMC Alumni Softball Game held in 2011.
