The 2011 finals shaped up as predicted, with the top two seeds meeting in the finals, as the 17-0 BFA Comets met the 17-1 defending champs Brattleboro in Poultney for the Division 1 crown. Chelsea Abbott got the start on the mound for the Comets and pitched masterfully. The two team battle scoreless into the 4th, when Brattleboro eaked ahead, 1-0. BFA promptly tied it in the 5th and the battle raged into extra innings with fine plays on both sides -- and an odd shattered light causing a delay amidst it all. In the 9th, Brattleboro scored on a Sac Fly to take the lead. BFA got solid contact from three straight hitters in the bottom of the 9th, but Brattleboro's defense held and the defending champs took the title. It was truly a great game. Congrats to all the players on both sides.

Even though the outcome was not what the Comets wanted, seeing their incredible effort was particularly sweet for Camp Billings, as BFA features many players our Kate has worked with since they were little and many that I had a chance to coach in winter indoor ball this year -- just a great group of girls! They did BFA, the community, and you proud! :-)
