I met Lily when she was still in high school and I told someone then that I wanted to talk to her after she'd been out of school about ten years because I was convinced she was going to do intriguing things. Lily beat my estimate by about eight years. At 21, she's already had more fascinating experiences than most people do in a lifetime - and is heading to Cairo in August to attend school. She is one of those very rare people who is comfortable with herself, funny, bright and interesting. I appreciate her sharing her stories with me - and for spending the time to allow me to photograph her.

There are places I'll remember all my life, though some have changed.
Some forever, not for better,some are gone and some remain.
All these places had their moments with lovers and friends I still can recall.
Some are dead and some are living. In my life I loved them all.
Some new digital, some older 35 mm (the obviously smaller ones). Places I've enjoyed.

A rainy day. Playing with lights and props and the camera. The shoe earned it's own gallery for being a good model. Now to see where it goes next.

Self portraits are more than simply an image of someone's face. Almost every photo we take is, in one way or another, a self portrait - revealing something about our likes, dislikes, interests, work, family, friends and more.

:: Alphabet Portraits ::
I saw a comment on an alphabet gallery referring to it as 26 days of insanity. :) I agree. I decided to take on the alphabet challenge, but wanted to do something different - and chose people. The criteria - first name, last name, nickname - taken for this specific gallery or worked on for this specific gallery.
Thank you to everyone who consented to pose or in other ways helped with my project.
:: This Old House ::
The house stood there long before the highway cut the farm in half and made working the land impractical. Acreage stretched out in all directions where now there is a Sheetz gas station, a McDonalds and soon a housing development that will double the community's population. It was sold by the original owners and then sold again to a development company in New York. It remained empty for the last 30 years until Avery (who was then calling himself Jose) came to stay on the land four years ago. He told me when he first came to the area that inside the house, up in the attic was written: "This has been and always will be a place of peace." "It is," he said, "a sanctuary." Later, he found more words, behind some wallpaper, "The storm is coming." A tornado hit the area last fall, skipping over the more populated sections of the community, but hitting the farm and house hard enough to have the property condemned. The tornado collapsed the roof of the barn where Avery lived with his dogs. He moved into the house then - something he hadn't done in 15 years. With the condemnation of the property, he is back in a tent, allowed to remain on the land there until the development company decides differently - or until he decides it is finally time to move on. "Everywhere I've lived I've always thought was the best place," he told me, "but I think this place truly is." He admits to having problems that require medication, but he is also happy with his life. He is saddened, however, that now the sanctuary is closed.

Tiffiny is an artist in many ways, no matter what her 'canvas' is. She graciously agreed to let me take some shots of her at work (and of her work) - and these will be followed by other portraits as she has time.
:: Photo A Day 2004-2005 ::
:: Matt and Nicole are engaged ::
They did it! After four years of togetherness, they decided to make it official. Matt and Nicole became engaged August 2. (I'll add the engagement story later; it's really sweet.) The party to celebrate - a surprise for Nicole - was August 5. Matt, Aaron, and Jason worked for HOURS on Saturday preparing food - an amazing array of incredible food (list of it ALL coming later). The Grill King, aka Dennis, kept the burgers, ribs and chicken coming. And, Jefferson Bakery did a wonderful job with the cake. About 50-60 people came to share the celebration. A good time - and later in the evening, a rowdy time - was had by all. Matt and Nicole said no one embarrassed themselves too much. More on THAT later too. ;-)
