We were there to survey the flora and fauna of the boulderfields and adjacent vegetation.
A feature of the area was particularly fine stands of monsoon forest, illustrated here.
This is a type of rainforest that grows in seasonally dry areas. Here, it has a well-developed canopy of evergreen trees 10 to 15 m tall, and huge deciduous trees (Bombax, Brachychiton, Gyrocarpus) emergent above.
At 10 o'clock in this image you can also see the more open eucalypt savanna. It grows in areas exposed to fire, whereas monsoon forest grows where rocks provide natural firebreaks.
