a large moth for which I can find no common name
I accidentally flushed this during the day and it flew to this perch
family: Erebidae

WOW! What a fantastic moth and photo. It is similar to the Black Witch moth (Ascalapha odorata) which very occasionally may find its way to southern Canada and beyond; it is also in the Erebidae family. My dream is to one day see one!! V

it's gorgeous...with a Latin designation like that, plus the colouring, any common name must have to do with shadows and low light....maybe Chocolate Twilight Moth would do...OK, maybe not..
