Undara volcanic plateau

Believe it or not, this was once the scene of much volcanic activity, and not so long ago in geological time.
The little pimple on the left horizon is the Undara Volcano, which produced a massive lave flow about 190,000 years ago and created what may be the longest lava tunnel on earth - over 100 km long - https://pbase.com/donfranklin/undara .
Photograph taken from the rim of another volcano, the cinder cone Kalkani Crater.
This tropical savanna landscape is now conserved as the Undara Volcanic National Park.

lots of habitat for wildlife then, and good conditions for plants too...amazing how far the lava flow traveled..

Nicely captured panorama. Hard to believe this was once a volcanic area, it looks so tranquil today.
