Believe it or not, there’s a bustling town and major highway tucked in the valley at the foot of the furthest hills.
I imagine that this was a sleepy fishing village not so many decades ago.
Development into a tourist mecca has been done tastefully with strict adherence to the old (and elsewhere often ignored) Balinese building code of “nothing higher than a palm tree”.
