Nardoo (Marsilea sp)

Nardoo is related to ferns.
It grows mainly in areas that are at least seasonally dry, in shallow pools and the mud that remains when they’ve dried. Here ‘tis growing in shallow pools in the basalt surface of Copperfield Gorge.
The plants produce spores which survive dry periods in the soil.
It is reported that the Aborigines harvested the spore capsules, grinding them to make flour.
