In response to Nirvan's comment, I'd be most uncomfortable on that sandbar for two reasons.
Firstly, if there was a storm upstream, as is very likely at this time of year, it could disappear under water in a few minutes.
Secondly, the river is home to Saltwater Crocodiles, which can occur upstream in freshwater as here in spite of their name.
