forbidden fruit

Don’t be beguiled by the pretty fruit; this small rainforest tree is seriously nasty.
It is the Stinging Tree (Dendrocnide moroides) and any contact with leaves or stems is painful – even through thick clothing as I can attest (the price for this photo).
People have been hospitalised in consequence (my case was nowhere near that bad) and the pain can persist for months.
Stinging Tree is in the same family as Stinging Nettle - Urticaceae.

And so pretty ! We have stinging nettles and there is an antidote plant that usually grows in the same vicinity - don't know what its called :( V

Now that is really interesting. Not only the powerful sting that can be given by these oh-so innocent fruit, but that the tree is in the same family as stinging nettle. Fantastic shot of such beautiful but deadly fruits. V
