Grass-trees aren't grasses, and they're not really trees either - they're ever so remotely related to Asparagus but are in a different plant family (Xanthorrhoeaceae). The 28 species comprise the genus Xanthorrhoea, which is naturally confined to Australia. Grass-tree flowers produce nectar prolifically, and many birds, insects and mammals feed on the nectar.
