Eddie Hammond was Chief of Security at Miami International Airport in the 70's and early 80's. He retired when they merged the Security Division into the Airside Operations, Terminal Operations and Landside Operations divisions.
Hi John, thank you for your comments about Chief Hammond. I remember your name as one of the FF's out at the station. Most of us Ops guys didn't hang out there at all and we only saw you guys out at Alert II's and III's. Lt. Nicoletti used to live next door to me for a couple of years and he was always playing tennis. Gary Novak went to Hialeah High with me and he dated a buddy's sister for a while. That's about all I can remember at this time. Hang in there buddy!

I just saw Eddie Hammond's Memoriam and it made me very sad to see that he had died.
I worked at the airport fire station for twenty eight years(1961--1989)and Ed would visit us often and shoot the bull with us and sometimes shoot a rabbit,he was a very good shot and very funny. He would always tell jokes,he was a nice guy and well liked by all of the Firefighters.I was just thinking of him recently and was thinking it would be fun to see him again.
Thanks for the site. I was born in Jackson Memorial hospital in 1936 so I enjoy all of the old Miami photos.I was in the third grade class at Coral Way Elementary but I don't see myself in the picture of the class.
Did you ever visit the fire station?
Thanks again.
