Dave McCarthy was a British aircraft mechanic who I met in the mid to late 1990's while he was employed by an aviation maintenance company with a contract to provide aircraft maintenance services for Nassau-based Bahamasair. We were both on the "Airline List", a group of aviation employees and/or fanatics in the mid-1990's and we moved to the "Skyone" group when we became disenchanted with the first group. Dave came over to Miami for a couple of days and we had lunch together followed by me giving him an airfield tour of Miami International Airport.
After our meeting in Miami, Dave's company was replaced on the maintenance contract for Bahamasair and he had to relocate back to his native England. We remained in contact on the Skyone group and we exchanged hundreds, if not thousands, of e-mail jokes, photos, aviation news, etc. via e-mail on an almost daily basis for years. He passed along my horrible jokes and I passed along his even though there were some Brit terms in some of his that some Americans would find hard to understand. We occasionally swapped personal e-mails about various topics and we were good friends online.
Dave passed away on _________________ in Plymouth, England. (More info forthcoming)
