I also took ballet lessons at Hook Square with Madame Bladeau. I was a Tarantella. My grandmother made some of the outfits. I lived on Corydon Dr. Does anyone remember Beaver Kiddy College? Had a train on the playground.

Two other establishments of note: in 1960 at the foot of South Drive was a Volkswagen dealership (visible in the photo); probably one of the first in the Miami area. By the late 60s, it had become a Barry's Cleaners. Across from the arcade entrance to the Circle Theatre on Curtiss Parkway was a men's clothing store called 'The Klothes Kloset'. The owner of the store became briefly infamous in the mid-60s for having killed his wife and stuffed her body into a garbage can. The can was tossed into the Miami River but bobbed to the surface as the body decomposed. As a result, we teenagers dubbed the store, 'The Klothes Koffin'.

One of the first jobs I ever had was an usher in the Miami Springs Movie Theater. Miami Springs had to be one of the best places on earth to grow up in.

In the 60's I took ballet lessons at Hook Square with Madame Bladeau (sp?) In addition to ballet, she made us learn songs in french, how to curtsey, etc. Besides an annual recital (Dade County Auditorium?), we also had a yearly tea at the Miami Woman's Club over near Key Biscayne. We had to dress up, entertain our mothers with singing, and be presented (where we practiced the curtsey). I also briefly went to the charm school over near the old post office (to no avail!)

Across from Arnold's Grocery was Russ Sayre's Pharmacy and Eddies Luncheonette.
Eddie's had homemade doughnuts. This is now Cozy Corner Rest.

Speaking of Hook Square does anybody remember the Florida Live Pak Lobster
store behind the Circle Theater?
The Hook family had quite a business handling live Maine lobsters for the resturants
in the area......I can remember the Chesapeake House which was on NW River Rd
& NW 36th street.
It surely had many memories there with Hollywood Celeberties like Tyrone Power's
photograph hanging on the resturant wall.

That Italian restaurant in Hook Square would be Quinty's, not Quincy's. It was owned by my buddies Pete and Eddie Ciolfi's dad, Quentin Ciolfi. There's a much older posting under another photo about the correct name.
